SCOTRAIL has announced a revised timetable will be introduced from Monday, March 23 as everyone across Scotland’s railway “works flat out” to provide transport for people delivering essential services.

Staff availability in ScotRail and Network Rail Scotland has been affected due to the coronavirus outbreak, as well as customer demand, making changes to the timetable necessary.

The new temporary timetable has significantly changed from the normal daily timetable and it is focused on delivering public transport service for “key workers”.

In the new timetable, the Balloch - Airdrie via Singer service will run every half hour, with the first train at 7.37am from Balloch to Airdrie and the last train from Airdrie to Balloch is 7.17pm.

The Dumbarton Central - Springburn via Yoker service will also run a half-hourly service, with the first Dumbarton Central to Springburn service at 7.26am and the last Springburn to Dumbarton Central at 7.24pm.

David Simpson, ScotRail operations director, said: “We are facing an unprecedented challenge on Scotland’s Railway and the revised timetable will help to provide a critical service for the key workers across the country.

“Our own people are absolutely committed and are working flat out on the frontline to help keep the country moving, while also keeping themselves and customers safe.

“The railway has an important role to play during this crisis and we will work closely with the Scottish Government to do all we can as the situation develops.”

The company said reducing the number of trains in service creates opportunities for additional cleaning activities on trains, and in depots, and allows more targeted cleaning at stations.

With more railway staff being affected by the impact of the coronavirus, revising services also accommodates infrastructure changes, and allows safety critical roles to be performed across the country.

The service level will deliver more than enough seats to meet the current demand levels and the timetable will be kept under regular review to react to any further developments.

The revised timetabe is as follows; for the Balloch - Airdrie via Singer service, trains will run on a half-hourly service.

The first trains are: 7.14am Hyndland to Airdrie, 7.28am Dalmuir to Airdrie, 7.37am Balloch to Airdrie, 7.16am Airdrie to Balloch. The last trains are: 7.07pm Balloch to Airdrie, 8.14pm Balloch to Dalmuir, 7.17pm Airdrie to Balloch.

The Dumbarton Central - Springburn via Yoker service will run every half hour.

The first trains are: 7.19am Garscadden to Springburn, 7.26am Dumbarton Central to Springburn, 7.24am Springburn to Dumbarton Central. The last trains are: 7.26pm Dumbarton Central to Springburn, 7.24pm Springburn to Dumbarton Central.
