A LINNVALE man who hurled threats and abusive remarks at his partner after forcing his way into her home has been banned from having any contact with her for three years.

Paul McGinley, 36, of Westwood Quadrant, forced entry to the property in Myrtle Road, Mountblow, after going there uninvited on December 30, before shouting, swearing and making abusive remarks and threats towards her.

McGinley had pleaded guilty to a charge of threatening or abusive behaviour at an earlier court hearing, but sentence was deferred until February 25 to enable prosecutors to find out more information about the cost of the damage caused when McGinley forced his way in.

But procurator fiscal depute Alasdair Allan said the Crown had not been provided with details of the cost by West Dunbartonshire Council, which owns the property.

Sheriff William Gallacher observed: “It’s quite bizarre that a council whose funding is so tight is not chasing this assiduously.”

The sheriff told McGinley: “What you were doing was utterly unacceptable.”

McGinley was handed a community payback order which will see him supervised by a social worker for nine months.

He was also told to carry out 140 hours’ unpaid work by the end of August, and was ordered to pay £300 in compensation at £25 a week.

In addition, Sheriff Gallacher imposed a non-harassment order barring McGinley from contacting, or attempting to contact, the woman until February 2023.
