We speak to talented makeup artist Adeeba Malik who tells how her mother was a key influence in her life and career.

Student Adeeba has said her mother has been not only her inspiration, but also her mentor and most ardent supporter.

Adeeba, from Bradford, is studying Business Management at university and works part-time as a freelance makeup artist.

She shares what compelled her to follow her dreams. She told us, “Makeup has been my passion since I was a little girl.

“I grew up seeing my mum doing her makeup and I always wanted to look as glamorous as her.

“My mum has been there for me from the beginning of my makeup journey.

“As I grew older, my love for it got stronger and I found a new appreciation for the art of makeup and how it can mean many different things for people.

“Before becoming a professional makeup artist, I would do makeup on my friends and family. I never really took it seriously as my goal was to complete my education.”

It was her mother who encouraged Adeeba to pursue this professionally when she was 18 years old. Adeeba went on to train at the P. Louise Makeup Academy, a key milestone in her career.

“My mum helped turn my goal into a reality by contacting the academy and arranging everything.

“I would always dream of the day I would become a professional, certified MUA by the P. Louise Makeup Academy.

“Never did I expect I would start at such a young age. I couldn't be any happier and proud of how far I have come.

“When I completed my training and was handed my certificate, I couldn't wait to get home and show my mum.

“That for me was my biggest accomplishment.

“Honestly, it was the best day of my life as I knew from that day my life would change for the better.”

Adeeba shares her work on her Instagram page @makeupbyadeeba_.

She says social media has been an invaluable tool her in establishing herself as a makeup artist.

“Social media is really important in my work as it is the only platform I have that gives me the opportunity to advertise and build my portfolio of work. Social media allows me to connect with my clients from across the world.

“I am able to engage with other influencers and companies to collaborate on projects.

“Most importantly, social media gives me the chance to express myself through my work and from this most of my young female followers become inspired.”

Amongst various campaign shoots, her work has also been featured in a music video for the nasheed artist Ahmad Hussain on his latest nasheed 'Bhula lo Phir.'

“This for me was a once in a lifetime opportunity and a great experience as I had been following Ahmad and listening to his nasheeds for a while, so when I was approached by him I was overwhelmed with happiness and so proud of the outcome.”

Although she is fulfilling her dream, Adeeba endearingly attributes all her success to her mother who she says gave her confidence and championed her creative impulses.

“My makeup career would not have been possible if I did not have my mum by my side throughout.

“She helped me through my good and bad times, picked me up when I was at my lowest and taught me how to stand on my own two feet.

“The experience of my life so far has really brought things into perspective. I have so much love, appreciation and profound respect for my mum.

“She’s my rock and my role model and seeing her smile because of how proud she is of me motivates me to take greater opportunities to be successful for the future.”
