POLICE in Clydebank are reminding residents to be vigilant following more than 500 reports of fraud.
Officers say the action fraud team has received the large number of calls from victims reporting that they have had an automated call from someone purporting to be from Amazon.
Residents are being informed that fraudsters have used their personal details to subscribe to Amazon Prime and are instructed to “press one” if they’d like to cancel the purchase.

When victims do this, they are automatically connected to criminals posing as Amazon customer service advisers who attempt to remotely access the victim’s computer to steal personal details.
Victims of fraud are advised to call 101.
