RESIDENTS in Old Kilpatrick will no longer have to go without a “lifeline” bus service thanks to the village’s MSP.

From 10pm on February 6, until 6am on February 17, the railway bridge on Roman Crescent will be shut due to Network Rail works.

Following the news that buses 1, 1A, 1B, and 1E will bypass Old Kilpatrick, MSP Gil Paterson has been fighting to resolve the issue.

Now, after discussions with transport authorities since October, Mr Paterson welcomed the news that there will now be a shuttle bus put on – with the times and finer details still to be worked out.

This followed a period of uncertainty after authorities said there would be no service to connect the village to the major bus lines.

Mr Paterson said: “On behalf of my constituents, I have been facilitating communication and pressing for a solution on this matter since it came to my attention.

“As such, I am very pleased we have got to a positive outcome whereby bus services will resume, albeit in a different manner, during the works to the rail bridge at Roman Road.

“Public bodies can take a lot of stick for seeming to not engage with members of the public on important localised matters, so I praise all the parties involved for coming together to get something done.

“The replacement shuttle bus to connect Old Kilpatrick and Bowling to regular bus lines is a necessary measure – especially for the elderly, infirm and vulnerable – so I am delighted we now have a solution.”

Last week, the Post reported that residents hit out at the fact no temporary bus had been organised.

Janice Hall, who travels the route regularly, said: “The bus is a lifeline to me and many others.”
