THE son of a Clydebank man who passed away 10 years ago in April is raising money for a charity set up in memory of his dad.

Daniel Burns from Duntocher has challenged himself to stay sober for 100 days, starting from January 1.

The 25-year-old will also climb Ben Nevis on the 100th day, April 10, along with a group of friends. The date marks the 10th anniversary of his dad’s death.

Stephen Burns was only 43-years-old when he passed away following a long battle with bowel cancer.

The police officer spent his final days in the care of Whitecrook’s St Margaret of Scotland Hospice.

Daniel said: “Good friends of my dad decided to raise some funds to donate to the hospice and £20,000 was raised.

“Amongst his friends was John Geegan who sadly lost his battle with cancer soon after. A group of dad’s friends decided to set up the Duntocher Foundation in their memory as a charity to help many families facing similar difficulties.”

Daniel decided to set up a JustGiving page to raise funds for the Duntocher Charitable Foundation.

He set a target of £1,000 and in just four days a total of £1,025 was collected.

Daniel told the Post: “I am quite shocked about the amount of money raised so far in such a fast time but hopefully it keeps going.

“The charity helps people in need in the community, they help them out during unfortunate circumstances.

“I want to give something back to the people who done so much for my dad.

“I have climbed Ben Nevis before for the John Hartson Foundation in 2016 so it will be good for the people who are joining us that haven’t.

“My dad would have been proud that I’m doing something for the charity.

“I’d like to thank everyone that has donated.”
