A CLYDEBANK man has appeared in court charged with leaving a woman permanently impaired in an assault at a flat in the town.

William Ennis, 34, of Montrose Street, is accused of assaulting the woman on two separate occasions, eight months apart.

It is claimed that in the first attack Mr Ennis injured his victim by striking her on the head with a crutch at Duncombe View, North Drumry, on March 30, 2018. Prosecutors allege that on November 27, at a flat in Milton Douglas Road in Hardgate, he kicked the same woman on the body, causing her to fall down a flight of stairs, leaving her severely injured and permanently impaired.

A further charge alleges that Mr Ennis faces a third charge alleging that on November 7, 2018, at a property in Vanguard Street in Drumry, he shouted, swore, threatened to set fire to the property, threatened violence and repeatedly struck a door while armed with a weapon, and placed two other women – the householder and Mr Ennis’s ex-partner – in a state of fear and alarm.
