PUPILS and staff at Linnvale Primary have earned their school a fifth environmental award.

Celebrations are under way following the Eco-Schools Green Flag being awarded – and not for the first time.

The school was given the award for its commitment to integrating eco-learning into the curriculum and ensuring pupils understand how to care for the environment.

The recent work of pupils has included carrying out litter, transport and wildlife surveys; planting wildflowers in the school grounds and local areas; litter picks and working with Scottish Natural Heritage on projects in greenspace areas.

All projects, including eco focus weeks, were planned and organised by the school’s eco committee and John Muir Award groups.

Lindsay Thomas, the school’s head teacher, said: “I am absolutely thrilled to see the school, and the hard work of our children recognised by this award.

“The children have worked tirelessly on litter picks, and in their local area, and they should be very proud of their efforts.

“Miss Guthrie and the eco committee work so hard to organise topics, surveys and outdoor learning opportunities to make sure everyone in the school is involved - they do a fantastic job and we are all very proud of them.

“I know that our children are growing up with an understanding of how we can all make a difference to help our environment.”

Linnvale’s eco committee is now carrying out an environmental survey in preparation for their next Green Flag application, which can be made in two years.

Their efforts have also been praised by Eco Schools Scotland.
