A YOUNG business owner from Knightswood has started the year off on a high after earning himself a top award.

Shaun McKay has become the first “Which? Trusted Trader of the Month” of 2020 after the judges were impressed by his many five-star reviews.

But it’s not the first time the 27-year-old, who runs Splash of Colour Ltd, has won the award.

He also bagged the title in December 2018 - making him the youngest ever at the age of 26.

Shaun is well known for going the extra mile for his customers and is teaching the same type of dedication to his new apprentice Nathan McFarlane - also from Knightswood.

Shaun told the Post: “It has been an absolute whirlwind over the past two years and I am thrilled to say the long hours and dedication I have put in to my company have paid off.

“I have huge plans for Splash of Colour. To win trader of the month gives us credibility but the Which? brand also provides an exceptional platform to promote our service.”

The entrepreneur took over the painting and decorating firm from his dad in 2013 and has been the driving force behind the company – increasing turnover and customer retention over the past six years.

Last year, Splash of Colour was put forward for Which? Trusted Trader of the Year, and narrowly missed out on first place during a ceremony in London.

Despite being runner up, Shaun vowed to keep up the good work in order to “bring it home for Scotland” this year.

The business has started 2020 as they mean to go on – as winning the award this month means they will be considered for the Trusted Trader of the Year award for a second time.

Shaun added: “Winning trader of the year is a huge ambition, however, in order to do this we know the hard work doesn’t stop here.

“We are working on a new marketing strategy and continuously keeping ahead of the curve to ensure we can be Scotland’s preferred painter. Loyalty and reputation is always at the forefront of the business.”
