A CLYDEBANK youth charity is looking for volunteers to join its team.

Y Sort It is on the hunt for mentors to join its “Buddy Up” service, which involves supporting vulnerable young people by helping them reach their full potential and increase their self-confidence.

Those interested must be over 18, understand the issues faced by young people in care, be a good listener and be able to dedicate a couple of hours per week to the role. Volunteers will be trained and supported.

Gillian Kirkwood, Y Sort It manager, told the Post: “Buddy Up mentoring makes a difference to many young people’s lives by volunteer mentors meeting up with them on a regular basis, listening to what is going on in their lives and taking part in positive experiences and activities with them – building relationships that are long lasting.

“Buddy Up is a great example of how you can make a real difference to a young person’s life by just spending time with them.”

In 2019, activities included trips to a safari park and a trampoline park. Mentors were rewarded for their commitment with a day to an escape rooms followed by dinner, where they got to know each other and share their experiences and tips about the mentoring process.
