Emergency services descended on a block of flats just before 5am this morning.

Mercy crews used an aerial appliance to tackle the blaze on the 22nd floor at Kirkton Avenue, which left two people needing hospital treatment.

Crews remained in attendance by midday.

They said that the festive period is one of the busiest times of the year for the service - with the increase of accidental house fires typically caused by a higher use of heating and electrical appliances.
