POLICE called to a report of a disturbance at a Whitecrook flat were met by a man covered in blood and hurling verbal abuse.
Barry McQuillan refused to calm down after answering the door to officers at his flat in John Knox Street on July 16.
A court was told police saw blood marks in the stairwell of the close and spatters on McQuillan’s front door following an anonymous cal.
McQuillan’s anger was such that police had to take him to the ground and apply restraining straps – and even then he continued his tirade, telling the officers that “you’re getting f*****g shot”.
The 33-year-old appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court for sentencing on Friday – but after reading claims from McQuillan in a social work report that he had been dragged from the flat by police and had banged his head against a wall, a sheriff continued the case.
Fiscal depute Emma Thomson said: “Police received an anonymous call reporting ‘something of concern’ at a property in John Knox Street.
“Officers entered the common close and made their way towards the sound of shouting and banging.
“It was coming from a flat occupied by the accused. Police observed blood marks on the stairwell and blood spatters on the front door of the property. Aggressive shouting could be heard from within, as well as a child crying loudly.
“Police knocked on the door, identifying themselves, and were immediately met by the accused, who had blood all over his face and hands.
“He shouted ‘what the f**k do youse want?’, while it was evident to police that the accused was also the person who had been heard shouting.
“A female presented herself at the door and identified herself as the accused’s mother, stating that the accused was under the influence of drugs.
“Given the circumstances, and the risk to police and persons in the house, police asked the accused to exit the premises. He said ‘f*** off, you’re not getting in without a warrant’.
"He was restrained against a wall but struggled and resisted.
“His behaviour was such that he was eventually taken to the ground but continued to lash out with his legs, and fast straps [a form of leg restraint] were eventually applied.
“The accused continued his tirade of verbal abuse, shouting ‘you’re getting f*****g shot, f*****g dirty b******s, f*****g ‘mon then’.”
McQuillan was eventually removed from the property and taken away in the back of a police van.

Scott Adair, defending, said McQuillan had pleaded guilty at a hearing on November 11, when sentence was deferred for a background social work report.
But Sheriff Maxwell Hendry noted that McQuillan had claimed that police had dragged him out of the house and that he had banged his head. After Mr Adair said that remained his client’s position, The sheriff ordered a “proof in mitigation” hearing on January 15.
