A “TOP class” performance of the classic 1939 film, The Wizard of Oz, was put on by a talented community group recently.

Knightswood Congregational Church’s very own pantomime provided residents with a fun and affordable show.

A total of £2,300 was raised for future church events and another £50 has been handed over to Glasgow North West Foodbank.

Rev Tom Wilson, the church minister, was “proud” to have hosted the pantomime.

And audience members took to social media to praise the cast.

One wrote: “Top class performance from the experienced to the younger ones who you’d think were professionals...we salute you all.”

But unfortunately for one youngster, Emily, who had been working hard to put on a show, ruptured her appendix the night before and was unable to take part.

The whole cast including Emily’s mum, Kimberly, and little sister Amber, five, put on a performance to make her proud.

Emily had keyhole surgery and is now back home.

First time director, Sheila Josey, said she was “in tears” when the cast sang Somewhere Over The Rainbow.

Sheila added: “I’m so proud of everyone’s hard work. They were all amazing.

“Looking back through pictures, I can’t believe how colourful and wonderful the show looked. I can’t wait to see what we do next year.

“Thank you to everyone who volunteered and bought tickets.

“Until next year...”
