A KIND-HEARTED bar owner will be opening the doors of his business on Christmas Day to make sure everyone has a free hot meal and some company.

Andrew McQuade will welcome those looking for somewhere to go into his Dalmuir bar, The Cabin, from 11am-11pm.

The 31-year-old made the decision to ensure nobody needs to spend Christmas alone.

Andrew and volunteers will be serving food for free from 12-5pm, as well as teas, coffees and cakes all day, and anyone who turns up can make use of the pool table, enjoy great music and a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Andrew told the Post: “I decided to open my doors to the homeless, lonely and vulnerable to give the opportunity of a warm Christmas that most of us take for granted.

“People attending foodbanks because they can’t afford food is on the rise and even working people are attending foodbanks for help, which is crazy.

“I think it’s important to help those in need and especially at this time of the year. For many people, Christmas is a time of sorrow. They don’t have the money to buy food and some don’t have a home at all.

“Many are saddened at Christmas when they need to spend the day alone. Roast dinners may be only a wish and not a reality for some.

“At the end of the day, people are people and no-one should be homeless or left hungry. One act of kindness creates an endless ripple and helping people gives me a great feeling of gratitude.”

Since posting the news on social media, Andrew has been approached by kind Bankies who are willing to give their time or some donations for on the day.

He added: “The response for volunteers and donations has been overwhelming. I wasn’t expecting such a great response but I knew I could count on some Bankies and my regular customers for support.

“Clydebank is an extremely caring community when it comes to helping each other out, especially when it comes to something like this.

“I have been messaged regarding donations from people that will be getting dropped off between now and Christmas Eve.”

Anyone who can spare some time or food such as biscuits, cakes, vegetables etc are asked to get in touch with Andrew via The Cabin’s Facebook page.

Only last month, the bar owner organised a night of entertainment in the venue for his customers by getting the brother of Lewis Capaldi in to sing during a live gig.

Warren Capaldi will be back on December 27, which will be a non-ticketed event.
