A CLYDEBANK man has been jailed for chasing and assaulting someone outside a Co-op store.

Francis Miller, 26, of Montrose Street, appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court for sentencing on Friday after he pleaded guilty to pursuing his victim, seizing him, pushing him, punching him on the head and kicking him on the body.

The assault took place at 1pm outside the Co-op on Dunn Street, Dalmuir, on November 25, 2018 - and was caught on CCTV.

Meghan Glancey, prosecuting, told the court: “The complainer observed the accused walking towards him. An argument began and the accused ran towards the complainer. The complainer ran away, and the accused chased him and caught up with him outside the Co-op.

“Miller then proceeded to push the complainer against the window, grabbed him by the t-shirt, causing it to rip. He punched him on the head and proceeded to kick him on the body.

“The complainer managed to break free from the accused’s grip. The accused then walked away and the complainer stayed at the store and contacted police. Police attended and spoke with the complainer before reviewing CCTV.

“The accused was cautioned and charged.”

Miller’s solicitor said told the court that the complainer had befriended Miller after the pair met while both were in prison.

The solicitor added: “He was homeless at the time and Miller took pity on him. He provided him with food and shelter.”

The court heard that a previous community payback order imposed on Miller in April this year had been interrupted due to a custodial sentence.

His previous convictions include police assault, breach of the peace, vandalism, assault and robbery with a knife, and assault to injury.

Sheriff John Hamilton told Miller: “It’s clear you use violence to get what you want. We’ve reached the end of the line.”

Miller was sentenced to six months in prison.
