A CONVICTED sex offender has been ordered to carry out unpaid work after he was caught using an alias name.

Gianna Gradini, of Freelands Crescent in Old Kilpatrick, used the moniker Ganna Del Greco to purchase a car and go on holiday with a woman.

The 64-year-old was found guilty in 2013 of using lewd, indecent and libidinous practices towards an 11-year-old girl in 1987 and 1988.

On Friday, Gradini appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court for sentencing after a breach of the notification requirement of the Sexual Offences Act.

Meghan Glancey, prosecuting, told the court: “In July, he told police he would be driving to Italy using a car.

“Checks found that the accused was the owner, but the car was registered under a different name.

“In August, he attended Clydebank police office after being on holiday with a female. When asked information regarding the relationship, he said he met this female two years ago. When asked his full name, the female gave the name he registered the car under.

“He provided this name in an attempt to conceal his convictions.

“He said he was planning on changing his name to this but hadn’t done so.”

Gradini’s solicitor told the court he was using the name to keep people away from his door and that his car had been damaged.

The solicitor added: “The offence was committed after a lengthy period of compliance. It was a short period of non-compliance.”

Sheriff John Hamilton ordered Gradini to carry out a community payback order in which he will be placed under six months of supervision and be required to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work within six months.

He told Gradini: “The sex offenders notification is there for a reason. so people can track you and know what’s happening.”
