A CHARITY which helps families with young children and babies is appealing to the public to donate items that are no longer needed.

The initiative, dubbed “Bairn Necessities”, is run by 3D Drumchapel and lends a helping hand to parents – by providing free clothes and other essential items such as prams and buggies.

Children’s clothing from sizes six months up to age five is currently needed as well as cots, baby baths, Moses baskets, prams and buggies.

The project started in 2013 under the name Baby Basics and Toddler Togs but changed to Bairn Necessities in 2016 and has helped a total of 901 families – including 271 this year so far.

3D Drumchapel is hoping to raise awareness of their project in order to gain donations but also to help make more families aware that they are there if needed.

A spokesperson said: “In response to our growing community, we have a large stock of quality new and pre-loved clothing and toys.

“We also have essential equipment and other items for newborns and children up to five-years-old.

“These items are completely free for families who need them, and for clothing in particular, we have many items available and are keen to redistribute these to the community.

“Requests can be made by families themselves or on their behalf by any public, voluntary or other support agency/organisation – and all requests are dealt with in complete confidence.

“Any donations are greatly appreciated and will allow us to continue our work helping families.”

The charity relies on the hard work of their “amazing” team of volunteers to keep the service running as well as the other work they do in providing support for families from pregnancy to early teenage years.
