BANKIE dentists and firefighters teamed up recently to raise funds for cancer charities.

Workers from Clyde Dental Practice and firefighters based at Clydebank swapped drills and hoses for sponges to support the Oral Health Foundation’s Mouth Cancer Action Month as well as the Fire Fighters Charity.

The 20 workers washed around 220 local cars to raise £1,569 for the respective charities.

Funds will go towards raising awareness about mouth cancer as well as supporting the UK fire community when injured, ill or in need of psychological support.

Jennifer O’Brien, Clyde Dental Practice manager, said: “Mouth Cancer Action Month is a cause close to our hearts as spotting the symptoms can be a very important part of our dentists’ jobs.

“We hope to help spread the message of a campaign that could help to save lives.”

The local Domino’s also helped support the fundraising by donating 200 slices of pizza to the busy volunteers to keep their energy going.

Jennifer added: “We’re proud to be working alongside local heroes who do such tough and admirable work on a daily basis and would like to thank both them and the local community for their support.”
