TWELVE Whitecrook properties have still not been selected for a unique pilot scheme to protect them from aircraft noise.

Years of campaigning led to West Dunbartonshire Council agreeing to spend more than £90,000 on noise insulation earlier this year.

There were objections at the time to taxpayer cash being used for the pilot instead of Glasgow Airport which is responsible for causing the noise and has agreed a noise action plan.

Questions were raised at the housing and communities committee meeting last week asking whether any property owners would be involved in the pilot, or just social housing.

John Kerr, housing development and homelessness manager, said the airport was in discussions with Clydebank East Community Council and the Whitecrook Aircraft Noise Association (WANA).

He said: “The pilot is specific to the housing revenue account. They have not yet selected the 12 properties. We’re hoping to get an outside expert next week.

“We’re hoping to meet with the airport for a more technical meeting.”

Councillor Marie McNair said both the community council and WANA were encouraging owners to be included.

Councillor Gail Casey added: “We don’t seem to have made much progress since the last meeting. I’m surprised the noise action group was not involved in the consultation.

“I look forward to any information on this subject.”
