THOUSANDS of people turned out for a sparkling night out at this year’s annual Drumchapel Winterfest event.

The local community enjoyed live music, funfair rides and stalls, and a “spectacular” firework display.

And Heart Radio’s Des Clarke introduced each act before performing the fireworks countdown. Simply Rod, Little Fix and The Collective all provided entertainment on the night.

Councillor Elspeth Kerr told the Post: “I would like to say thank you to everyone involved in making Drumchapel Winterfest a brilliant community event.

“A lot of hard work went into making this event the success it was and I would like to pay homage to Drumchapel L.I.F.E, police, neighbourhoods and sustainability and everyone else who had a hand in this, for all their efforts.

“I look forward to working on Winterfest for next year to keep this brilliant festival going for our community.”

Recently the Post reported that Councillor Paul Carey said that with funding down from last year it seems that 2020’s festival will be a challenge to run.

Organisers claim that if funding from Glasgow City Council continues to decline, then it is uncertain if the festival will be able to continue.

A spokesman for the council said: “This was another fantastic year for Drumchapel Winterfest.

“There was great turn out from the local community and the fireworks were absolutely dazzling.

“We are delighted with the on-going support we received from Heart Radio and we now look forward to next year’s event.

“Having an organised fireworks display in Drumchapel has made a positive contribution to reducing instances of anti-social behaviour in the area on and around November 5.”
