PUPILS from Kilpatrick School have been busy setting up their very own radio station.

A launch day was held this month and Ewen Cameron, an award-winning radio and TV presenter, was invited along to cut the ribbon.

Senior pupils in S4, S5 and S6 started the project last year and have posted news, podcasts and creative content online on their SoundCloud profile – Kilpatrick Radio.

The internet-based radio station is part of the Developing Young Workforce programme in which the students learn employability skills.

These include textiles, product manufacturing, art and design, workshop, social enterprise, cafe, salon, out-of-school work experience and now radio.

As part of the radio station project the pupils take up many roles and develop skills such as learning how to research on the internet, editing, technology, reading and public speaking, and collaboration on creative projects.

And thanks to a generous donation from Beanfeast charity, a brand-new recording studio has been built in the music classroom.
