A SCOTTISH Labour Westminster candidate has said she fully supports the aims of the campaign “Save Linnvale Greenspace” as it bids to prevent house-building on land at Strauss Avenue.

Residents of Linnvale have been fighting since December 2018 to prevent the greenspace site at Strauss Avenue from becoming residential, which led to the group being set up in June this year.

The group is calling for a local development committee to reverse its decision to designate the area as residential status and revert to open space status.

Jean Anne Mitchell was delighted to meet group representatives Dawn Fyfe and Stuart Gray along with Labour Councillor John Mooney at a recent meeting.

Jean Anne said: “It was a very productive meeting and I am proud we have such a committed pressure group joining me in standing up for Linnvale.

“My view is very clear. I have always been against any housing development at the greenspace, and I urge the SNP to come out and publicly support the aims of the Save Linnvale Greenspace campaign and stop plans for house-building on this land.

“This land must be retained for recreational use.

“A climate emergency has been declared and we must use our greenspaces wisely to encourage wildlife to flourish which will benefit our community long term.”

Formerly football pitches, the area at Strauss Avenue is regularly used by the community and the local primary school, but could become houses, despite 435 concerns being raised by local residents.
