An ESTIMATED 1.4 million pensioners are missing out on a £140 energy bill discount, according to research from comparethemarket.com.

It’s believed more than 100,000 elderly customers entitled to the Warm Homes Discount (WHD) may be losing out because they’re with an energy supplier that isn’t on the scheme.

On top of this, an estimated 1.3 million pensioners may not be claiming Pension Credit - which means those on low incomes aren’t getting the vital discounts they should.

The WHD is available to people who receive the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit and live on a weekly income of less than £167.25.

Peter Earl, of Compare the Market, who carried out the research, said: “The Warm Homes Discount is a lifeline for those elderly people who will struggle to afford to heat their homes this winter.”
