A SUCCESSFUL harvest and gala event was enjoyed by the Knightswood community recently.

The Kingsway Court Health and Wellbeing Centre organised the event for Saturday, September 7.

Set up in 2002, the project aims to help improve the quality of life for residents of Plean Street, Kingsway Court flats, and beyond.

And the recent harvest and gala event celebrated the most recent crop, and shared its produce from the community garden.

Lainy Bedingfield, community development worker at Kingsway Court Health and Wellbeing Centre, told the Post: “This year we were fortunate to have glorious weather which saw somewhere between 200 and 300 people come along and take part in the activities on offer.

“The centre is always keen to hear from the community and the event gives us the opportunity to do this in a fun and informal way.”

There were lots of activities and guests included DJ Mark Robb. The Land and Environmental services brought along tractors, Glasgow Eco Trust’s De’ils on Wheels team took more than 60 young people through a bicycle skills course, PEEK, Glasgow Life offered lots of outdoor play activities, and Countryside Rangers gave people information on biodiversity and wildlife.

The produce of the community garden meant fresh vegetable and herbs could be given out.

More than 50 bags of ingredients for potato and leek soup were also available and more than 200 people tasted samples of the soup.

The ingredients of the soup were harvested from the garden and made by volunteers at the centre who did a brilliant job in helping with organisation and on the day.
