School pupils from West Dunbartonshire have raised an amazing £12,000 for four different charities.

Youngsters from Vale of Leven Academy and Dumbarton Academy teamed up with peers from Clydebank High and St Peter The Apostle High School for the project, which aimed to raise funds for issues impacting their local communities.

The group were taking part in the The Wood Foundation’s Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI), which was set up by retired oil tycoon, Sir Ian Wood.

Working in teams, young people chose a prominent social issue to focus on, such as mental health, disability or domestic violence.

Each team then developed presentations focusing on their chosen charity, on why they should receive a £3000 charitable award.

Local charities which benefitted included Dumbarton District Women’s Aid and the Loch Lomond Rescue Boat.

Jonathan Christie, of The Wood Foundation, said: “It is wonderful that YPI is having such an incredible impact locally.

“Congratulations to the young people.”
