A COUPLE who tied the knot after meeting through a Bankie Facebook group have announced that they are still “very much in love”.

Shirley Ann, 57, and Robert Lochhead, 63, became Facebook friends in 2012 after speaking to each other on the “Call Yersel a BANKIE!” (CYAB) page.

However, it wasn’t all that simple, as Robert who is originally from Whitecrook – lived half the world away in Perth, Australia – where he moved 35 years ago.

But this didn’t stop him making his move with some “classic Whitecrook banter” and the pair continued to keep in touch.

After sharing banter for a few years it soon became evident that the friendship was becoming more.

Robert visited Scotland in 2015 and spent a lot of time with his future wife to be.

Then, after two visits to Perth, Shirley Ann, originally from Linnvale, made the decision to move down under – and marry Robert on September 3, 2016.

And three years later, the couple revisited the place they first met and shared an update with those who followed their story at the time.

Shirley Ann wrote: “Some of you may remember the story of how my husband and I met through CYAB even though he was living in Australia and I was in Clydebank.

“Just wanted to let you know the first CYAB love story is still going strong and today is our third wedding anniversary.

“Hope you don't mind me sharing pics of the beautiful roses I received from my wee hubby today, I thought they might bring a smile, and that those of you who remember our story would be happy to know we are still very much in love here in Australia where we still are, and forever will be, Bankies at heart.”

Bankies flooded the comments wishing the couple many “happy anniversary” messages.

At the couple's wedding, a cake that featured the groups name was on display, and soon after a message of thanks was posted.

Shirley Ann said: "My husband Robert and I would like to thank Wolfman Bernie Logue for creating CYAB, enabling two Bankies who once lived on opposite sides of the nolly bridge (but never met) the opportunity to get to know each other on this site despite living 10,000 miles apart.

"Our love story began after Rab made a "hubba hubba" comment on my profile picture and yesterday we tied the knot in sunny Australia. It seemed only fair we include CYAB in our day, so hope you like the wedding cake we had made especially!

"Thanks again Bernie and also Danny Smith, Margo Murphy and Ann Eddison for keeping this site going over the past four years and allowing me to meet my wonderful husband."
