Fans of the London smash-hit Les Misérables will be able to enjoy the musical close to home after it was announced it will be staged in Glasgow for the first time.
The Boubil and Schönberg musical will run from June 3 to 27, 2020, at the Theatre Royal - the first time a Cameron Mackintosh show has been staged in the city in more than 15 years. The last was Miss Saigon at the King’s Theatre in 2004.
The production was launched in 2009 to celebrate the show’s 25th anniversary and inspired a hugely successful movie version starring Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway and Eddie Redmayne.
The score features the songs, I Dreamed a Dream, On my Own, Stars and Do You Hear the People Sing and the show is one of the most popular musicals world-wide, having been seen by more than 120 million people worldwide in 52 countries and in 22 languages.

James Haworth, theatre director at the Theatre Royal, said: “I am extremely excited to welcome Les Miserables to Theatre Royal and to Glasgow for the first time next year.
“It is such a prestigious and revered musical and the calibre of Cameron Mackintosh’s productions is outstanding.
“This will also be the first Cameron Mackintosh production to come to Glasgow in over 15 years which makes the run especially significant to the Theatre Royal and the city.”
Tickets will go on sale to Theatre Card holders on Monday, October 21. There will also be a groups pre-sale on October 23 and a pre-sale sign-up on October 25.
The general ticket sale opens on October 30.
