COUNCILLORS could pass a set of rules for the Traveller community during their stay in West Dunbartonshire.
The “Respect Code”, which will be discussed at the infrastructure, regeneration and economic development committee later this month, has been drawn up by officers.
The code details where encampments can be set up, and general rules for the habitation of the sites, including the appropriate disposal of waste and noise issues, breaches of which would result in the council taking “enforcement action”.

Officers have also recommended an appraisal is undertaken, which could potentially identify a second site in the area where members of the Traveller community could seasonally set up.
Councillors have been asked to consider the establishment of a Gypsy/Traveller sub committee, which would deal primarily with issues relating to housing, health and education.
