ANIMAL lovers from across the country travelled to Yoker to attend Glasgow’s first ever hamster show.

At the event, there were 24 Syrian and four Dwarf hamsters entered for the main show last Saturday, August 10.

Meanwhile, 31 Syrian and nine Dwarf hamsters were entered in the pet class show.

Organised via the National Hamster Council by Amberhill Hamstery, the event was a “great success” and thinking caps are already on to prepare for the next gathering.

Margaret, from Amberhill Hamstery, told the Post: “There was a brilliant atmosphere throughout the day and members of the public also called in to see what was going on.

“People came from far and near. A massive thanks to everyone who turned up.

National and international judge Susan Washbrook travelled from Alcester to judge, Rachel Owers (Vectis Hamstery) and Kat Barnes (Doric Hamstery) both travelled from Southampton to assist with the judging, and making sure the paperwork side of the show went well.

And Andrea Heron from Northern Ireland got the job of judging the Pet Syrian Class along with Kat, and Susan was judging the Pet Dwarf Class.

Winners are as follows:

  • Best in Show (Syrian) and Reserve Best in Show (Syrian) was awarded to Mrs Julie Osmond (Peerie Critter Hamstery for her hamsters Alesha and Daisy.
  • Best in Show (Dwarf) was awarded to Margaret Donnelly (Amberhill Hamstery) with her Dominant Spot Chinese hamster (Mayleen) and Reserve Best in Show (Dwarf) was awarded to Ms Leah Ruth Williams with her Dominant Spot Chinese hamster (Perch).
  • Best Pet (Female Syrian) was awarded to Cheryl Collins
  • Best Pet (Male Syrian) was awarded to Morven Burrett
  • Best Pet (Female Dwarf) was awarded to Ava Will
  • Best Pet (Male Dwarf) was awarded to Layla Boyle
