Y Sort It have described feeling "gutted" after their youth centre was broken into last week.

On Thursday night thieves forced entry by removing the shutters and smashing a window at the building on West Thomson Street.

Two iPads were taken as well as the safe that contained cash.

The youth charity posted on their Facebook page, said: "Sadly, Y Sort It youth centre was broken it to on late on the evening of Thursday, July 18.

"We are gutted that this has happened, the team work extremely hard to make sure we provide children, young people and families with safe spaces, activities and support.

"Things like that takes away resources we want to invest in our community, to make it a better place to live, grow up in and work, it’s frustrating.

"To whoever was involved in this incident, our doors are open to support you, Y Sort It belong to ALL young people of West Dunbartonshire including you and your family.

"We also know that the local community may have an idea of who was involved, so please if anyone knows anything, call 101, even anonymous, or speak to or message one of our youth workers.

"Thank you to everyone who has sent messages of support."

Residents flooded the comments expressing how sad they were to hear what had happened.

One said: "Absolutely awful. Everyone works so hard to do so much for so many people. I am so sorry to hear this."

Another added: "The response to this act from Y Sort It shows why organisations like this should be fully funded, as despite everything, they are still reaching out to those involved and offering support rather than anger."
