“Twenty-five have already been filled, all by people from the local community in West Dunbartonshire.”

Provost William Hendrie, who attended the opening, added: “Its unique facilities and panoramic views of the countryside means it will be a pleasant place for those who decide to reside here. It will bring many benefits to West Dunbartonshire including employment opportunities.”

Margaret Harrigan’s 95-year-old mother Margaret Robertson from Faifley will be moving into Kingsacre when it welcomes its first residents on July 8.

The Hardgate resident said: “There is such a shortage of care places for the elderly in West Dunbartonshire, so this is really needed.

“We had been waiting for a placement at a different nursing home locally, but none had became available. She is in one in Bearsden, but it’s a bit far away from me whereas the home here is five minutes down the road.”
