The owner of a Knightswood painting and decorating business is determined to be named Which? Trusted Trader of the Year in 12 months time after narrowly missing out on this year’s title.

Shaun McKay who runs Splash of Colour was one of four UK finalists in this year’s competition and headed down to London last week for the awards ceremony, hosted by the BBC’s Steph McGovern.

He told the Post: “Unfortunately we did not win, but it was a great evening and what an experience it was to mix with the big brands.

“The best thing was that painters were put forward as painters don’t get much credit. We received positive feedback from the senior management at Which?, who said we were so unlucky and that they were very impressed with my company.

“I hope I can be shortlisted for next year, if I keep up the great work, as I wanted to win it for Scotland and won’t give up until I bring it home.”

And as well as aiming for next year’s title, he also hopes to help give youngsters experience in the trade with a long-term view to turning their new Southside premises into a training centre.

He added: “We can offer training so their chances of getting an apprenticeship will be higher. If young people know the basics it will be easier to get a job.”
