A VALUED member of the team at St Mary’s Early Learning and Childcare Centre will soon be retiring – after 50 years of service.

Jane Greene, a childcare practitioner at the Duntocher nursery, has worked there since 1972, but started probation in 1969 at the Barns Street Early Education Centre.

After completing her training, she worked at Whitecrook nursery before moving to St Mary’s in the 70s.

Jane, who grew up in Clydebank, has been described by her colleagues as a well-respected member of the team, not only within the nursery but with families in the Duntocher area.

The dedicated nursery teacher is now working with the kids of parents she had in her group years ago when they were at nursery.

Parents and colleagues have paid tribute ahead of her last working day on June 26.

Margaret McDougall said: “Jane has been involved in early education for many years. I have known Jane all those years and found her to be a conscientious and hard-working person who has been dedicated to nursery education. She is also a lovely helpful lady and I wish her a long and happy retirement.”

Kim Berry added: “I feel like you make St Mary’s nursery, you have always been at the centre of it. Very proud to have met you in all my kiddies’ journey.”

Louise Costello added: “Jane was my nursery teacher in St Mary’s back in 1989-1990. I absolutely loved her. She was very caring and I remember being very happy there. I was ecstatic when my own kids started nursery 29 years later and I learned that Jane was their teacher too. I knew the were going to love her as I did.”
