On Wednesday, June 3, 2009, the Post reported that...

KILBOWIE Thistle were delighted to lift the CDL cup recently in a hard fought derby match with Atlantis.

Thistle boldly started the game with four forwards to press on the Atlantis defence, and got their first reward when Atlantis’s keeper was left rooted to the spot with a superb strike from Nicky Clark giving Thistle a well deserved lead.

Kilbowie then upped the ante and pressed for another goal to make the match safe with several chances spurned.

The game should have been put to bed early doors but at half-time, Thistle were just one goal ahead.

The second half was played out pretty much the same as the first half until about the 70th minute when Atlantis gained a numerical advantage after a Thistle player was sent off for retaliating.

This then spurred Atlantis on to find an equaliser which came shortly after.

Kilbowie then had to endure prolonged attacks from Atlantis in which Thistle’s goalkeeper Gareth Addidle pulled off numerous first class saves to keep them in this game.

And in the final minute, Martin Gillespie whipped in a telling cross for Clark to header easily by the advancing keeper to secure the trophy that went to Thistle for the third year running.
