THE Recycle Room’s uniform bank appeal is now open – and Clydebank’s MSP has described those who make it happen as “amazing people”.

Nichola Mable, who runs the initiative, is looking for donations of new and nearly new items such as jackets, shoes, school bags, gym kits, school shirts, skirts, trousers and packed lunch boxes.

Gil Paterson launched the uniform bank at Faifley’s White Church last week.

The SNP MSP said: “The Recycle Room provides an invaluable service for the community, and the uniform bank is a crucial part of that service.

“Every child deserves to feel good about themselves at school without having to worry about how they are dressed.

“We’ve also seen a lot in the news recently about how concerned people are, particularly the younger generations, about climate change and the state of our planet.

“They are right to be concerned and this initiative gives us all the opportunity to do our bit by recycling items that still have some use in them.”

Gil was also full of praise for the team at the Recycle Room, and he urged any of our readers who have spare uniforms in their home to consider donating them.

He added: “Nichola and the volunteers at the Recycle Room are amazing people who treat everyone with dignity and respect.

“I would urge anyone who has good quality school clothing, that their child has grown out of, to donate to this very worthy cause.”

Nichola aims to ensure school uniforms are available for every school in Clydebank so that all youngsters can return to school after the summer holidays in smart, well-fitting uniforms.

She said: “I want all children to feel confident and that they fit in at school.

“Kids who are happy are going to perform better and the used clothes we offer are as good as new.

“Last year we handed out more than 3,000 items of uniform.

“We all need to reuse and recycle as much as possible if we are to reduce our carbon footprint and it’s great that families can save money at the same time.”

The school uniform room at the Hub on Kilbowie Road, will be open every Tuesday and Wednesday between July 9 and August 7 this summer.
