A DRUMCHAPEL man has fought his way to a fistful of top prizes in a major Tae Kwon Do competition.

Martial arts maestro James Semple, of Heathcot Avenue, won a gold and two silver awards in the UKTC Scottish Championships at Glasgow’s Kelvin Hall.

It was his first event after two-and-a half years out of the competitive side of the sport, which he first took up in1995.

The 24-year-old explained: “I have been going into teaching, so that’s me just getting back into competing after two and a half years.

“I’ve been helping my instructor out with the classes at the moment and I’m enjoying that.”

James learned everything he knows about the sport at the Drumchapel Sports Centre, and now he is looking to further his career, perhaps even on the other side of the world.

He added: “I am going to try to get into the Scottish Tae Kwon Do squad, which will take in the World Championships in Australia next year. I’ve got another competition coming up at the Playdrome soon.”
