On Thursday, April 22, 2004, the Post reported that...

A TALENTED Duntocher boy tee-ed off his first golf ball at the tender age of three and now 14 years on he is breaking records.

Scott Henry started playing the sport with his father when he was just a toddler and has loved the sport ever since.

The Clydebank High pupil is now buckling down to get the grades he needs so his golfing future can be sealed at Stirling University.

The Post told previously how Scott competed in the BP Scottish Boys’s championship and won with a 12 and 11 over his tough opponent at Southerness.

This broke the previous record of 12 and 10 which was set in 1951.

The 17-year-old had his proud dad Alan watching from the sidelines as he lifted the trophy.

“I love golf to bits,” said Scott.

“I want to make it my career and want to see if I can get to the top level. The whole of last week I just loved every minute. My dad came down on the Friday and watched me all day Saturday.”

Scott, who was a member of Clydebank and District Golf Club at the age of nine, is now also a member of Cardross Golf Club.

But although golf is at the top of his agenda, Scott is knuckling down and thinking about his future.

And the talented teen has to make up his mind soon about his golf scholarship at Stirling.

He told the Post: “I need to decide what subject I am going to do at university soon. I don’t know what I will pick, probably business or sport.”

Scott spends all his time on the greens and when he is not golfing with his school mates he is hitting fairways with his dad.

He said: “Every now and then I play with my dad. I have not had much of a chance but it is still good fun. It is always good to beat him, I beat him a lot.

“He has not won for a while but when he does I never hear the end of it.”
