Young people will be getting on their bikes for fresh air and exercise thanks to a new project organised by Y Sort It.

The youth charity, which supports young people aged 10-25 in West Dunbartonshire, is launching Street Bikes which is all about promoting an active lifestyle, as well as protecting the planet from unnecessary carbon emissions.

Street Bikes also aims to save as many bikes as possible from landfill to help save the environment.

With two mechanic workers and volunteers, the project will offer basic bike maintenance workshops to young people, giving them the skills to fix their own bikes and learn about basic upkeep.

Street Bikes wants to ensure it is inclusive of everyone, no matter what their background, by providing free recycled bikes to the community.

Y Sort It also has a pool of fleet bikes for staff and volunteers.

Young people can hire them out for cycle rides which will be led by the group’s qualified ride leaders.

With the new Street Bikes workshop launching on Saturday, April 27, at 8 Crown Avenue, Clydebank, from 12pm to 4pm, the group is looking forward to a series of regular planned cycle rides.

There will also be bike workshops as well as climate change workshops for the young people and community.

It’s set to be a great day with live music, face-painting, home-baking and possibly some BMX riders performing if they can come along.
