NEVER before seen images of the famous QE2 liner have been discovered on eBay.

The slides, which include shots of her being built in Clydebank, were snapped up by fans of the vessel and are now set for their first public display.

The QE2 Story website, is to mark the 50th anniversary of the Cunard liner’s maiden voyage with an event in Glasgow on May 4 where they’ll show the full set of slides.

Rob Lightbody, from the QE2 Story, was tipped off to the the collection of images on eBay but multiple forum members ended up bidding against each other to try to secure them.

In the end, Rob was successful and he told the Post it was great to have access to snapshots of the original design.

There are countless photos of the QE2 in later life but few of her construction and early years as an icon of design and style.

Her original and distinctive white funnel was quickly changed to orange and the slides include shots of her proper form.

Rob said: “I recognised the importance of these slides of QE2 when I saw they were for sale on eBay and having had the opportunity to view them, I have not been disappointed.

“However, as I also recognised the importance of giving others the opportunity to view these historic pictures, what better time to plan an event than in May to celebrate 50 years since the maiden voyage of QE2.”

The QE2 Story, which organised a conference in Clydebank two-years-ago to mark 50 years since the liner’s launch from John Browns, will host their next event on May 4 at Fairfield Shipyard Offices.

The ticket-only show will include a tour of the PS Waverley at her berth, if circumstances allow.

There will be transport to the offices for a light buffet lunch, then a presentation of the slides along with shipping on the Clyde from the 1940s to 1970s.

And there will be a special screening of Magic Ride, a film about the QE2 at the time of her maiden voyage.

Ian Johnston and Dr Bruce Peter, who were speakers at the conference held in 2017 will be guests at the event.

The QE2 is now enjoying her new life as the Queen Elizabeth II Hotel in Dubai, which opened last year after a decade languishing without progress.

She last visited the Clyde in 2008.
