CLYDEBANK'S most famous chippy has added a rather unique item to their menu.

McMonagle’s Boat are now serving their customers “frickles” – battered pickles.

They have been on offer since the end of last month and more than 1,000 of the wacky snacks have sold on Just Eat alone.

"Frice-cream” – a Morton’s roll fried in batter with ice cream in the middle - is also available, but only on request, at the takeaway and restaurant which has been serving the people of Clydebank for the last 27 years.

The restaurant promoted their frice-cream on social media with the caption: “Frice-cream, why not? The fryers like to try new things. Their latest creation, Morton’s roll fried in batter with ice cream in the middle. Tried and tasted, better than expected.”

General manager Debbie Rose Reilly, who the famous boat is named after, said the frice-cream was a quirky joke for fun, and not on the menu, but is available on request for those brave enough to try it.

John McMonagle, who had the boat built in Campbeltown shipyard to start his business, said the wacky new frickles have trebled the amount of pickles they sell.

McMonagle's is the worlds most unique fish and chip shop, and is also a tourist attraction, thanks to their "sail-thru" serving window that allows those on the canal to catch a snack without leaving their boats.

On Easter Sunday only, customers can try Easter eggs and Cadbury Creme Eggs in batter, with ice cream.

John said: "This is purely a fun thing for one day only. Easter is Easter - we forget about the diet and pig out on chocolate."

The chippy is well known for trying new things as it was one of the first retail units in the whole of the UK to sell the popular Tango Ice Blasts, and once sold more than any other business in the UK.

The family-run business was the busiest single unit shops on the Just Eat app from 2012 until 2017, and still remain one of the top 10 in the UK.

More than 13,700 people like the McMonagle's Boat Facebook Page, from Clydebank and beyond.
