A DOG owner is warning others in Clydebank to be extra cautious when out walking with their pets after her pooch suffered an attack that was completely out of the blue.

The woman – who wishes not to be named – was walking in Dalmuir Park with her French Bulldog, Bonnie, who was on a lead.

They were then approached by an Akita which lifted the pup up in its mouth and shook her about.

The incident took place after another small dog, a Miniature Pinscher, was attacked at Dalmuir Golf Course only a few weeks ago, at the end of last month.

Bonnie, described as the most loving and placid dog who takes things in her stride, is luckily not too shook up by the attack.

She was left with a small puncture wound which needed treatment by a vet, but she has been acting as normal on her walks since the incident.

However, her owner is warning others in the area to be extra vigilant and extra cautious when it comes to walking their dogs as the Akita was not on a lead and was “quick to turn.”

Bonnie was near the play park area at 5pm, on Tuesday, April 9, when the Akita came running, grabbed her in its jaws by the scruff and “started rag-dolling her,” according to her owner.

Bonnie’s owner said: “I was screaming, and my three-year-old daughter started screaming so the Akita’s owner shouted and slapped the dog and she let Bonnie go.

“When I took her harness off she had a puncture. I think her harness actually saved her – it could have been much worse if she didn’t have that harness on.

“I was shaking at the time and later on that night when the shock wore off I was really upset. It’s a shame because she’s brilliant off the lead, she is trained and comes back to me instantly when she’s shouted but I’m just worried about other dogs – I know that she’s okay.”

The Post previously reported that the Miniature Pinscher dog attacked in Dalmuir last month was left with internal bruising to his neck and back, after suffering whiplash.

The dog’s 71-year-old owner was also injured.

And in December 2018 a woman told how her beloved pet was savaged by a Japanese Akita on Vanguard Street as she walked him.
