BABY Boxes have benefitted more than 20,000 families in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area, new figures have revealed.

Across the country, more than 80,000 Baby Boxes have been delivered since April 2017, and the Scottish Government recently announced a new design for Mother’s Day.

The box includes essential items for a baby’s first weeks and months, including a selection of clothes, a bath towel, a travel changing mat, a bib, a digital thermometer, and provides a safe space for babies to sleep near their parents.

The initiative aims to help tackle deprivation, improve health, and support parents. A total of 20,244 have been provided to families in Greater Glasgow and Clyde since they launched.

Local MSP Gil Paterson told the Post: “Every child, regardless of their circumstances, should get the best start in life.

“At the heart of the Baby Box is a message about fairness and opportunity, which is why I’m delighted to see that so many new families have benefitted from it.

“The uptake, with 96 per cent of expectant parents in Scotland now requesting a Baby Box shows how successful and popular the scheme is – and more than 80,000 have been delivered.

“That’s a huge vote of confidence in the Baby Box. Given how beneficial they are to parents and new-borns, long may that continue.”

The new boxes will also encourage families to become more environmentally friendly, with parents-to-be receiving a voucher for a reusable cloth nappy, and liners."
