THE TOP school rugby teams from West Dunbartonshire battled it out at an Active Schools rugby event last week.

Primary six teams from Balloch, Braehead, Gartocharn, Linnvale, Our Lady of Loretto, St Mary’s Duntocher, and St Michael’s primaries all competed at Clydebank Community Sports Hub for the P6 rugby final on Wednesday, March 27.

Craig Thompson, Active Schools coordinator, said: “The final consisted of a round robin touch rugby tournament, where all teams played each other in 10-minute matches.

“Teams consisted of seven-a-side with at least two girls on the pitch for each match.

“All of the teams played extremely well. Throughout the tournament, the rugby played was at a good level, with the final match deciding the places from first to third.”

The team from Braehead Primary took first place, St Michael’s came second and Gartocharn placed third.

Craig added: “This was initially a curriculum time project with input from Loch Lomond Rugby Club, Clydebank Rugby Club and Scottish Rugby Union which saw all P6 pupils in the authority receive delivery of a minimum of three sessions which culminated in a series of competitive festivals held in Alexandria, Clydebank and Dumbarton.

“The top teams from each area progressed through to the final.”
