Residents in West Dunbartonshire are being urged to get involved in the Great British Spring Clean by local MSP Maurice Golden.

The campaign, running from March 22 to April 23, brings together individuals, community organisations, businesses and councils to make a difference to the environment on our doorstep.

Last year around 630,000 bags of rubbish were collected.

Mr Golden has called for litter fines to be raised to £100 and carried out his own litter pick-ups.

He said: “Litter can spoil our streets on a daily basis so I have called for greater fines when it comes to those who drop litter, which would send out a strong deterrent.

“I am also fully supportive of any efforts to help clean up any areas which have become blighted.

“The Great British Spring Clean is a perfect opportunity for residents across West Dunbartonshire to do their bit for the natural environment so I would encourage them to get involved.

“Hopefully people see the value in helping and join one of the many committed local volunteer groups who work hard to keep our communities clean and tidy.”
