On Thursday, March 11, 2004 we reported that...

PUPILS at St Andrew’s were given the chance to help boost brain cells and brush up on study skills last week.

The seeds of successful study were planted with the "Tree of Knowledge" seminar. The North Douglas Street school helped youngsters prepare for the stress of pre-summer exam timetables.

Relaxation techniques to help focus young minds and prepare them mentally for study were amongst the tips offered at the pioneering seminar. Coping with exam stress and considering the impact exams will have on their future, were all areas covered by the would-be top scholars during the two and a half hour workshop.

Dunfermline-based Derek Walker, co-ordinator of "Tree of Knowledge" events helped ease the burden on pupils by giving a practical demonstration of relaxation techniques.

● Pupils will also attend a Jordanhill Campus-based study skills session in a further bid to ensure good exam results. Motivation, utilising time and memory techniques will all feature on the agenda for the pupils’ time on the Strathclyde University run campus.
