OFFICIALS have said they were unaware of the state of a road between Kilbowie Primary and Clydebank Health Centre.

The pothole-ridden stretch between Granville Street and Kilbowie Road was raised as a safety issue by resident and campaigner Craig Edward last week.

But council officials, when asked to comment, said “now we are aware” there would be an inspection to see if any work was required.

Mr Edward, who is currently using crutches, condemned the road as an “absolute disgrace”.

He told the Post: “I was recently in a car accident and use crutches to cross this road to the health centre from my flat at Radnor Park and it is very dangerous.

“Schoolchildren and other health centre patients such as the elderly or disabled must also be suffering from the horrendous condition of this road - plus the damage to people’s cars.

“The speed bumps are a riot - now they are lumps of tar, no yellow signs telling drivers not to park at the school, and the 50-plus potholes littering the road. In fact, it’s a cheek to call it a road now - it’s more like crazy paving.

“When was this road last inspected by the council?

“The council absolutely must resurface this entire stretch of road - safety must be the number one priority here. It cannot wait another few months left in this dreadful state.”

But the council said they were not aware of the issue and would inspect it.

A spokeswoman told the Post: “Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. Now that we are aware we have arranged an inspection of the road, pavement and relevant signage and if any work is required, it will be instructed.”

In last year’s West Dunbartonshire Council budget, the SNP administration pledged £10.6million to roads.
