Police are appealing for witnesses and information after an elderly woman was robbed after being forced to the ground. 

The 73 year-old was walking on Machan Road at Quarry Road, Larkhall when she was approached from behind.

She was assaulted and a black Barbour jacket and a Black Kipling leather handbag, which included a Kipling purse and a three-figure sum of cash, were stolen from here. 

Items of jewellery, including her wedding and engagement rings, a dress ring and also a gold coloured watch, were also taken. 

The incident took place at around 8.15pm on Friday evening.

Officers are now hoping that members of the public will be able to help with their enquries. 

Detective Constable Andrew Sinclair from Cambuslang Police Office said: "This was an extremely frightening and violent attack which left an elderly woman injured, and without some of her most sentimental possessions."

“Although we have no description of those responsible at this time, we believe there were two people involved.  We are working to establish more information on their identity as they must be caught as soon as possible for this sickening crime. 

"Officers have been carrying out enquiries in the area and viewing a large amount of CCTV footage to gather more information.

“There are additional patrols in the area to provide public reassurance, and I would urge anyone with concerns to speak to these officers.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area around the time of the robbery who either witnessed this attack, or who witnesses anyone acting suspiciously to come forward as soon as possible. 

"I would also like to hear from anyone with any information on the items that were stolen or who have any dash cam footage from the area around the time of this incident."
