YOUNGSTERS in Drumchapel are set to benefit after a youth group recently received a huge funding boost.

Antonine Court Ltd was awarded £99,578 from Young Start, run by the Big Lottery Fund.

The group was one of 16 projects across Scotland to be given funds and will be using the money to run their youth group in Drumchapel for young people age eight to 18 with additional support needs.

The youth group provides opportunities for social, educational and recreational activities.

Tom Lusk, the youth group leader, told the Post: “We are delighted to receive the funding, it will make such a difference to the young people in Drumchapel and the surrounding areas.

“We promote creativity, build confidence and empower young people.”

Ms Campbell, cabinet secretary for communities and local government, added: ‘“One of the best things we can give our young people is the opportunity to build their confidence.

“By encouraging them to work with others and learn new skills, these projects do just that - making them more active while developing their self-esteem. I’m delighted the 16 successful projects will be run for and by young people, providing a platform to help them reach their potential.”

Young Start funding is aimed at organisations working with young people aged between eight and 24 years of age. Groups can apply for up to three years and there are no application deadlines.
