A WOMAN who was found in possession of a pair of kitchen knives in a Dalmuir street has been placed under social workers’ supervision for two years after an angry outburst within a court building.

Megan Craig reacted angrily to police at Dumbarton Sheriff Court after they took her out of a courtroom on December 13 because of concerns about her demeanour.

The 31-year-old returned to court last Friday for sentencing after admitting a charge of threatening or abusive behaviour.

Fiscal depute Martina McGuigan told the hearing: “Police saw the accused sitting at the back of the court. Concerned about her demeanour, they had cause to speak to her.

“She was detained and taken to a room within this building and cautioned and charged in respect of other matters.

“As she was being led from the court she began to shout and swear, using phrases such as “f****** p****s” and “c***s”.

“There were members of the public around at this time. She was handcuffed and held in custody.”

Craig’s December appearance was in connection with a separate charge of being in possession of the knives in Dunn Street in Dalmuir on January 22 last year.

Craig’s solicitor told the court: “She was feeling quite vulnerable in anticipation of what she believed was going to be the final disposal.

“Part of the reason she was taken away was because of concerns over her own wellbeing.

“She now appears much more positive and is willing to work with the social work department and other services that are there to help her.”

Sheriff William Gallacher said: “Both these matters cause me concern. The offence in January is very serious indeed, and your behaviour in court was shocking and unacceptable.”

Craig, of Ashton View in Dumbarton, was placed on a community payback order which, as well as supervision by social workers until February 2021, will require her to accept psychological and psychiatric treatment recommended by her supervisors and those caring for her.
