A VERY Happy New Year to all of our readers at the Clydebank Post. We at Edinbarnet are glad to be back to work and school.

Recently Edinbarnet had a visit from a lady from the Dogs Trust. Her name was Gemma and she was fantastic. She came in to the school to tell the children how to look after dogs properly.

She showed us the type of things that you need to care for a dog. She also showed us some of the techniques that Dogs Trust do to help dogs. The children really enjoyed spending time with her and learning different things about dogs.

As reported in last week’s Post, P5 have recently undertaken a topic study of the Titanic.

They are learning about all different areas of this from the building of the ship in Belfast right through to the night it sank and even modern theories still discussed today. Some children have even been doing research at home.

Meanwhile, over the last few weeks, P2/3 displayed their maths learning at their class assembly. Their focus was “shape” and they had great fun showing off their learning to their parents and classmates.

At the beginning of the term, P6 went to Glasgow Science Centre to learn about the development of fish, in particular trout.

They now actually have eggs in the school that they will watch progress and use to help them in their topic study. They love the job of looking after the eggs, soon to be fish, because it lets them learn more about the fish and their habitat.

During the first few weeks back P7 focused on studying Robert Burns. They undertook their own learning and in addition planned a Robert Burns celebration party.

They had an amazing time. They did dancing, ate some Scottish foods and read out their own poetry. The P7’s got to invite their family to come for the afternoon of the celebration. The P7 pupils planned the entire event themselves, working within a budget agreed by their teachers.

Over the past few months Edinbarnet has been developing pupil participation groups.

These happen on a Friday afternoon. Each teacher takes a different group and there are children from P1 to P7 in each group. They each focus on a different area, some examples are an anti-bullying group and a career crew.

Edinbarnet Editors is one of these groups. These help us become more involved in what is happening in school.

Just a few weeks ago the Fair Trade participation managers presented at assembly about the aims of their group.

We’ll have even more news from Edinbarnet next month.
